Christmas time means lots of yummy treats from Grandma Jennie! Of course, this includes her Homemade Caramels! By using the microwave, clean-up is a breeze. Homemade treats make the best gifts! Thank you, Grandma Jennie, for sharing your Caramel recipe with us! (Traditional candy making instructions are included in the printable recipe.)
Here’s Grandma Jennie’s instructions:
Butter a 9 X 13 pan. In large microwave safe bowl, melt 1 cup (2 sticks) butter in microwave. Stir in 1 lb. (16 oz. box) of light brown sugar. Add a dash of salt. Stir in 1 cup light corn syrup and 1 can of sweetened condensed milk.
Let cool completely. (It’s better to let set overnight on counter. Makes it easier to wrap.) Prepare wax paper pieces by cutting them into 3”X6” pieces. Cut caramels into pieces and wrap with wax paper. This takes quite a bit of time, but worth it!
