Where do you look for inspiration when it’s time to start decorating for the holidays?
We’re lucky to live near a community that has an annual Festival of Trees. It’s presented by a local foundation group and helps fund their outreach programs such as HALO Project, I Sing the Body Electric, Young Women/Men Aware, and Faith in Action. Local businesses sponsor a tree or wreath and hire local designers to decorate them. It’s a weekend event filled with lights, sounds and performances from local arts groups, kids craft areas, and cookies!
The Festival of Trees definitely provides lots of inspiration for decorating for the holidays! Are there any local holiday events where you live?
To get you started … and hopefully inspire you … here’s a list of 10 ideas to decorate your Christmas Tree. I’ve included affiliate links (see disclosure here) for your shopping convenience (just click on any of the pictures), but make sure to support your local holiday events!
1. Oversized Ornaments
Huge, brightly colored ornaments can certainly make a statement! Yes, they can be used outside, but have you tried using them inside to decorate your tree? If you just have a few, use them at the bottom part of your tree. You will create balance if you use larger sized ornaments at the bottom of the tree and smaller ornaments near the top.
2. Small Picture Frames
3. One Type of Ornament
Add memorable ornaments by purchasing annual collectables such has Hallmark, Precious Moments, Swarovski, etc.
5. All One Color
7. Kid Inspired
8. Flowers & More Flowers!
9. All Homemade
Make it traditional! String popcorn or make paper loops for garland, create gingerbread or painted homemade dough for ornaments. Need tutorials? Just search Pinterest using “How to make homemade Christmas Tree Ornaments” and you’ll have more ideas than you know what to do with!
10. Use an Abstract Idea
This is the one where you can really get creative! Let your imagination go wild! Choose a theme such as music, reading, love, or movies. Examples for the movie theme could include: using old CD’s or DVD’s to create ornaments; stringing popcorn for garland; or creating ornaments with popcorn boxes.
